The “KING OF THE HILL HARD ENDURO” is written out according to the following guidelines: The KING OF THE HILL HARD ENDURO is an internationally known race, authorized in Romania by the “Federatia Romana de motociclism“ (F.R.M) and takes place between 22 to 24 October 2021.
KING OF THE HILL HARD ENDURO is the first race of the Romanian Hard Enduro season. The 2021 classes are:

The route consists of a Prologue Day and 2 off-road days in the Zarandului Mountains, with a daily start and finish in the GHIOROC area. Difficult, technically demanding daily stages on hilly landscapes are characteristics of the route, and are manageable with standard hard enduro/motocross motorcycles with an autonomy of at least 50 km. It is stated explicitly that the selective characteristics of the route and the attainable maximum time for each section and each day are conditioned by the weather, perseverance and driving ability and can lead to a considerable failure ratio. The entire route is fitted with shields, respectively colour marked strips.
For safety reasons, the possession of a functioning GPS is necessary for each single competitor.
For all classes, the gps is recomended!! Any pro/hobby rider without gps or with a gps, but not with the track recorded can be disqualified or penalized in case of protests. Each competitor from pro, class must have at least one functioning gps device (smartphone, smartwatch, etc.) At all times, recording the track. – example: app for smartphone: viewranger – ios/android.
Any protests cannot be made without a recorded gps track no mather with what device, a gps or a smartphone or other devices!

A functioning headlamp and rear light is necessary just for safety/legal reasons during the race. The organiser is authorised not to allow motorcycles with technical problems to take part in the event.
The frame of the motorcycle may not be changed at any time during the King of the Hill Hard. It is not permitted to fit NEW tyres or ‘another set of wheels with NEW tyres’ anywhere on the racetrack between the ‘Start’ & ‘Finish’ or at the daily refueling points.
Refuel ONLY with the engine turned off. In the refuel areas there is a strict smoking interdiction! The Organizer will assign special areas for refueling called Tank Points. Refueling is allowed ONLY in these areas.
In Tank Points each competitor will get petrol for refueling, free from the Organizer, under the following conditions:
The fuel for the prologue is the responsibility and on the expense of the competitors;
Each competitor will start day 2 and 3 of the race with the tank full at his own expense;
The Organizer will provide fuel in the tank points up to the quantity of 5 liters/competitor/day (excepting the prologue);
Competitors with two-stroke engines will get the fuel in the tank points already mixed with two-stroke motor oil, the proportion of mixing will be 1:50, 2%; The oil for two-stroke engines will be of Full Synthetic type provided by LiquiMoly;

Race numbers cannot be changed during the competition. It is forbidden to start the race without the race numbers provided by the Organizer attached to the motorcycle. The competitors are not allowed to manufacture their own race numbers.
For the PRO category race numbers are from 1 to 99 (BLACK numbers on a YELLOW background);
For the HOBBY category race numbers are from 300 to 499 (BLACK number on WHITE background)
Additional to the fact, that the route is fitted with shields and as a backup for fog or darkness, each competitor will receive the track of each off-road day as well as important co-ordinates for example refuel-areas, finish, hotels etc., uploaded by the organizers onto the GPS.
Each competitor from PRO CLASS must have at least ONE functioning GPS device (smartphone, smartwatch, etc.) always, recording the track. The power supply of the GPS by power coming from the vehicle and/or from the batteries during the whole race is the responsibility of the competitor.
Learn how to activate the “Track recording/Track log/TrackBack” in the GPS before arriving at the start line. It is the competitors’ responsibility to make sure that their GPS records during the race. Check the manual of the GPS to understand this setting.
You can choose any GARMIN GPS, but we prefer those GPS which have USB connector. Please consult with email@example.com if you plan to use other GPS types.
For safety reasons competitors must carry with them on their vehicles the following material:
- 1 GPS per competitor
- 1 GSM mobile phone in waterproof packaging (able to phone out and receive calls)
- 1 foil survival blanket
- 1 wind and waterproof jacket
- 1 spare spark plug
- 1 tool set for basic repairing
- 1 motorcycle tube or repairing set, if no mousse is fitted
- 1 set of spare batteries for GPS Helmet
The instructions for the various items of safety equipment must be respected and competitors will be tested on their knowledge. Off-road vehicles, off-road motorcycles with emergency medical aid-teams, as well as ambulances offers their services to each competitor during the whole event. The intervention time is about 30 minutes at the accident site, but due to different terrain and weather conditions, a maximum intervention time of 2,5 hours can be guaranteed, after the incident is announced!
General considerations for all days of competition: The first to start shall be the competitors registered at the PRO class followed by the competitors registered in the HOBBY class.
If a competitor does not present himself at the start (he cannot start) when his turn comes according to the start list (HOBBY or PRO), he will start at the end of the class to which he belongs to in the chronological order of the participation numbers.
To reach start area you must drive on public roads, so each rider is responsible for his acts on the main roads. You can reach start area also with the bike on a trailer, it is rider’s choice how he get there.
PROLOGUE will be running by the SuperEnduro race format rules. Details will be published later. All riders will do 2 laps and the best time from these 2 laps will be starting order for DAY 2.
The best 60 times/riders will be divided in 4 groups for finals. The best 5 times from each group will advance in SUPER FINAL. Groups of riders and PROLOGUE TIMETABLE will be published on our website the night before prologue.
The competitors will start in the order of ranking drawn up after the prologue qualifications, so the competitor with the lowest time during the prologue will start first.
The competitors will start one by one or 2 to 5 riders at intervals of 10, 20 or 30 seconds, the interval/number of riders is set by the organizer based on the number of competitors and communicated at the technical meeting in the night before the race.
The competitors will start in the order of ranking drawn up after the day 2, so the competitor with the lowest time during day 2 will start first.
Each CLASS of riders must make a certain number of laps which will be announced at the briefing. Depends on weather conditions how many laps. Each class will have a different track marked with tapes.
Each day of competition will have the maximum running time/laps announced by the organizer at the technical meeting. The competitors found on the track when the maximum time/laps expire will advance in the competition track to the next control point (CP) where will follow the indications of the organizer.
The route is done by marking strip. The competitors registered in the HOBBY class will compete in a single color marking strip and the PRO, class competitors will compete in two colors marking strip (the color for HOBBY class for common portions and a specific color only for PRO loops.
There is a third color marking strip to signal the wrong / closed / banned ways.
The points where the track of the PRO class splits away from the HOBBY class track is marked before 30 meters with both colors double strip.
At points where the track of PRO class meets the track of HOBBY class, the direction to follow will be marked with strips of both colors or arrows or will be indicated by referees.
The marking strips colors for each class and for the wrong / closed / banned ways shall be communicated in the technical meeting. The Check Points will also be clearly marked. The start and finish will be marked accordingly.
In the woods in some sections of the route, are marked corridors that must not be exceeded.
All competitors will get information on the exact starting procedure in the competitor & service crew briefing(s). The starting-grid, the starting list and interval formation will be announced at the competitors briefing on the night before each race day.
Because of the exposed routing, each competitor must treat contacts with other competitors (overtaking), carefully and respectfully. Overtaking within checkpoints flags is not allowed.
Checkpoints (CP) are timing points (competitors passage time is recorded) and are clearly indicated on the track. The GPS recorded track of the competitor may be taken in consideration in the resolution of a protest or for judging cases of penalty or disqualification.
PRO CLASS must always have a GPS and set to record the track. Any conspicuous events during the race, regarding the competitors, such as evidently injured competitors or a technical defect stopped competitor, MUST be announced to the ”Rescue Manager” using the phone number(s) provided.
If serious injuries directly contact by mobile phone the Rescue Manager, Race Director or Race organisers. In case of an accident, competitors are indebted to help a injured rider, please make contact by mobile phone with the rescue manager. An injured competitor should never be left alone!
If it is not possible due to lack of GSM/Satellite phone signal, then the rescue form with details filled in should be handed to another competitor to phone again where GSM satellite coverage becomes available or phone from the next checkpoint. In general there is GSM signal on most of the peaks and ridges but some valleys have no coverage.
Competitors who assisted at an accident will be given a ”calculated riding” time by the Race Director or jury. If an injured person needs to be taken care of until the rescue-team arrives, all helpers and assistants will receive an “estimated riding time” for that section, on decision of the race Director or Jury. Remember: it will always be worth helping!
The organizers will publish the “maximum riding time limit” for next day at the competitors briefing. The riding time of a competitor is calculated by adding the actual riding time on the track plus given time penalties. The sum of the total amount of time of each stage (start to finish) is valuated.
The winner is the competitor who achieves the lowest riding time. The organizer has the right to disqualify participants in case of unfair behaviour or in the case of course fouls. If your riding time means you will not reach the finish (maximum riding time) you will be asked to leave the race track at a checkpoint or tank point and directed back to the finish. If you ‘’leave the race track’’ at a checkpoint before the finish follow the instructions provided at the checkpoint.
You MUST present your motorcycle and GPS at the ”FINISH” or at the ”PARC FERME” as soon as you can.
If the organizer / Race Director decides that a section of the course has become impassable due to weather conditions, queuing or other factors outside his control, or if the estimated “maximum days riding time” is no longer achievable then the organization has the right to remove time taken between checkpoints or finish the race earlier and adjust the results accordingly. Our guarantee is that at least 40% of competitors each day will be finishers in the results.
A working GPS must be demonstrated. A mobile phone must be shown working. Failure to produce working navigation/phone/safety equipment at the motorcycle inspection or at any time when requested by organizing officials during the event will result in time and penalties or disqualification from the competition.
A rider who will chose not to start the PROLOGUE will have a time penalty (and they will ride after the lowest time recorded on the PROLOGUE in order of inscriptions). At the prologue will be organized a WAITING AREA and all bikes must be inside during race for a quick flow of events.
Being 10 minutes late means you will have to wait until a free spot in the next group is possible.
Every rider must leave the bike there and the bikes must be pushed in and out with engine OFF!
All riders must follow these rules, otherwise the one who brake the rule will be DSQ
Starting order for DAY 2 – riders will do 2 PROLOGUE laps and the best lap will be your starting order.
FINALS– the best 60 riders from Qualifications splinted in 4 Groups. Best 5 riders from each group will advance in the SUPERFINAL. Riders will be in groups of 15.
SUPERFINAL – Best 20 riders from FINALS will do 5 laps and the fastest one will be the PROLOGUE WINNER.
FINALS and SUPERFINALS will not influence your starting order for DAY 2.
Being over 60 minutes late at the start means you have abandoned. If a competitor is late less than 60 minutes at the start, the GIVEN start time will be recorded not the actual starting time.
Riding with unreadable competitor numbers at the start will result in a 10 minute time penalty. Starting order is made by the results of the day before. First will go on the track PRO, HOBBY.
For all classes the gps is mandatory!! Any pro/hobby rider without gps or with a gps, but not with the track recorded can be disqualified or penalized in case of protests.
Any protests cannot be made without a recorded gps track no mather with what device, a gps or a smartphone, or any other device capable to export the track in .gpx format!
Repeat offenders – disqualification from the event.
Riding off the track, taking short cuts, being more than 30 meters off track equals a calculated penalty time provided through Race Directors analysis.
If a competitor gets lost (leaves racetrack) he must re-enter the GPS track using the same route to avoid penalties.
Riders will receive the main track as a safety reason. For all riders GPS is recommended to be set on record and in case of protests or penalties you can confirm that you have been riding on the track. GPS mandatory for PRO class.
Failure to reach a checkpoint or NOT stopping at checkpoint = Abandoned. This will lead to substantial time penalties.
Failure to reach a checkpoint or NOT stopping at checkpoint on 2 offroad days = Disqualification.
For your own safety: – it is important the organizers know where you have reached on the track, therefore you must STOP at all checkpoints(CP).
Not reaching a checkpoint before your TIME BAR time means you have abandoned, and you must leave the racetrack. Failure to leave racetrack equals disqualification.
For missing or not reaching a checkpoint a inflated “missed CP” penalty time will be given.
Each checkpoint will have a time limit – riders who don’t get in time at a certain CP will have to wait in CP until the race organizers are taking them off the track back to home. Those who brake the rule are DSQ and are on their own if they get lost.
Every rider who is out of the race is obligated to go at the START AREA to announce the organizers that he is home and safe AND HE CAN’T PASS THE FINISH LINE!
Missing one CP = 60minutes (depends on weather conditions)
Missing more than half of the CP, means DNF.
Loss of timekeeping chip = 150 EURO MONEY PENALTY.
Not reaching the finish means you have abandoned.
Not reaching the finish within the days maximum riding time means you have abandoned.
Abandoning on two days means disqualification. All competitors who leave the track must present themselves with their motorcycle (for results transponder reading) and hand in their GPS at the ”GPS competitor paddock checkpoint”.
Then WE know YOU are SAFELY home and can produce your result and upload your GPS track for the next days race.
You may ride next day on the race track after disqualification ONLY on the discretion of the race Director or race organizers. You will no longer be included in any official results.
Riding against the race direction = disqualification.
Not riding on the track of the competition class you entered will lead to abandoned or disqualification.
Riding in the woodf on the day of the INSCRIPTIONS or PROLOGUE is FORBIDDEN!! Now almost all lands are private. Riders caught will be DSQ!
In case of extreme wheater or COVID-19 epidemia, race organizers can re-schedule the race to another safe period. These measures are needed to prevent risks and better protect the health of all those who, in various capacities, participate in KOTH event. All riders who already payed will be signed in for the next event organized by Hard Enduro Club Arad and announced in time.
Temporary results and later official results will be found on the official King of the Hill Hard Enduro event notice board at the race office.
Temporary results are published each evening, competitors have one hour time if they wish to make any complaints, objections or protests.
If there are no complaints, objections or protests then after 1 hour time the results will become official without further notice.
The presence is mandatory at the prize giving for the riders who are on the podium, otherwise the prizes and not given to the missing rider.
ANY PROTESTS CANNOT BE MADE WITHOUT A RECORDED GPS TRACK NO MATHER WITH WHAT DEVICE, A GPS OR A SMARTPHONE!
Official protests must be in writing. In the case of an official protest(s) an organized jury meeting will take place to consider this/these.
For “agreeable” complaints or objections these will be considered by the race Director and or race organizers.
In the case of written protests, the arbitrator is the race Director, the supreme jury of King of the Hill Hard Enduro is the race jury, formed by a representative of the event organizers and a representative of the Romanian Federation (FRM).
As a general rule, the KING OF THE HILL 2021 competition shall follow the rule “the best time wins.” The computation time of the contest is: Prologue time + time on day 1 + time on day 2 + any penalties = FINAL TIME
In the case of abandonment, it is imperative that the competitor phones the rescue number. Abandonment of a pilot must be announced at the START/FINISH line and the CP card must be left there.
All competitors who have left the course MUST go to the “RACE OFFICE” or “FINISH” to explain the situation.
This is how we know you are safely home, and you can be included in the days result.
In addition, failure to respect the obligation to inform the organizers in the case of retirement, abandonment or disqualification, where search operations are carried out, will result in the competitor being liable for the financial costs of search operations.
Disqualified or abandoned competitors are only allowed to continue on the race track with the permission of Race organizers or Race Director.
The organizers’ ‘sweeper’ vehicles will close the enduro race track. As it is impossible to guarantee that the sweeper will pass by the exact spot where a machine has broken down, it is the competitors’ responsibility to indicate their position to the checkpoint (CP) using the safety equipment aboard.
The sweeper will instruct the individuals found what to do and help if this is needed. Competitors who abandon their machine before the passage of the sweeper do so entirely at their own responsibility.
The organizer can in no way be held responsible in case of damage or theft. Competitors who do not follow the sweeper’s instructions do so entirely at their own responsibility. However, the competitor may be held responsible for searching and rescuing costs, resulting from their decision of not obeying the sweeper’s instructions.
Retrieval of a riders machine left on the track cannot be guaranteed by the organizer, however, help will be provided whenever possible.
Riding on banner/marked King of the Hill Hard Enduro tracks before event is not permitted. Competitors will be disqualified from competing in King of the Hill Hard Enduro. Competitors entry fee will not be returned.
Exclusively all competitors take part to the event on their own responsibility. They carry the exclusive civil and penal responsibility for all the damages caused by their motorcycle.
Every competitor guarantees that he and his vehicle are covered by a liability insurance. If the rider is not the owner of the motorcycle which he drives, he sets everyone, who is involved in the organization of the event free of any claim of the proprietor.
The competitor, who has suffered an accident or damage, renounces by handing in the enrolment, to any right on proceeding or resort over against anyone involved in the organisation of the event, in particular towards to: The organizer, to his commissaries and helpers The owner of the event, used estate as well as towards the carrier of the build facilities and establishments along the track and his commissaries and helper The promoter The event-sponsors The F.R.M (Federatia Romana De Motociclism)
The Competition’s organizer will set up a Parc Ferme delimited and guarded where the competitors will leave their motorcycles. Also, the organizer will delimit a service area. All interventions on motorcycles will be made only in this area.
Leaving the motorcycle in the Parc Ferme is optional, the organizer is not responsible for the bike out of Parc Ferme;
The competitors must submit their motorcycles to the cold park immediately after registration or in maximum one hour after finishing the race for a particular day.
The competitor may take out the motorcycle from the Parc Ferme one hour before going to the start based on the badge received when registered.
Each motorcycle must have an independent standing system.
Taking in or out of the motorcycle from the Parc Ferme will be made with the engine OFF.
Placing and / or taking out/in the motorcycle from the park is made only by the competitor based on a ticket / card / badge provided by the organizer at registration.
